In 1848 the so-called "March-Revolution" takes place in Germany, in 1849 a campaign for a new constitution of the Empire follows as well as upheavals in Saxony, Lower Palatinate and Baden. After the defeat of the democratic revolution, thousands of people have to leave their home country. They settle down in the "Land of the Free", in North America. There they enter politics and contribute to the democratic system of the United States. |
